Otjiwarongo Argicultural show 2007

We attended the show in Otjiwarongo with the responsibility of promoting the training network of our Ministry. We received a certificate for the best stall at the show, quite an achievement I should say.
I wish to make use of this opportunity to thank the committed team of Otjiwarongo RHTC for a job well done as well as our driver from Windhoek, who was part of the team despite his job title. Thanks so much!

Health system review

I took part in the data collection process during a health review that was conducted by our ministry in April 2008. This exercise of reviewing the health system was the first step towards the compiling of the strategic plan. It enabled the ministry to identify crucial strategic issues on the ground and teams were send out into sampled areas in Namibia for data collection.

I happened to be the team leader of the team assigned for Kunene region. We stayed in the field for three weeks, doing face to face interviews with the community, focus group discussions and interviews with stakeholders.

It was very interesting to see with my own eyes what some communities in the most remote areas of our country are facing, like inproper or lack of sanitation facilities, bad roads, no television or radio coverage (Sesfontein), etc.
It is mentionable that despite difficulities faced by our personnel, some of them remains committed. Just wish to say to everyone out there, just be strong.

Video facilitation workshop

The DVC assistants of all five different training centres of the Training network, the DVC and Library assistants of our ministry and the library staff of Onandjokwe nursing college attended a workshop on video fascilitation hosted by I-TECH, but facilitated by Positive Vibes in Windhoek in July this year.

I could not attend the workshop itself, but there was some team building activities on Friday and I deemed it necassary to join them.

This exercise of throwing a rope to each other while you are telling the group what you have learned during the workshop and what do you commit yourself to do when returning to your duty station, was quite interesting.

The issue of the benefits of working together as a team was very clear when everyone had a piece of the rope in their hands illustrating a very strong team compared to when everyone dropped the rope.

I really wish that the team should always maintain this positive spirit. My sincere gratitude towards the committed staff of the ministry who are devoting themselves to DVC activities on top of their own responsibilities in the absence of such structure on our staff establishment. Thank you so much!

Courage....

Developing of Management plans workshop, Okahandja

Our ministry develop their five year strategic plan (2009-2013) last year. The implementation strategy to be used is to cascade it down to the lowest level through means of management plans.
The national directorates gathered in Okahandja from the 27th until the 31st of July 2009 to develop these management plans.

It was a very exhausting workshop and we had to work until around 19h00 everyday. However, it was at the same time also a very good learning experience, since it was important to understand how to set objectives, measures, targets and initiatives. One important lession that I've learned during the week was that if you cannot measure an objective, you cannot manage it!

My sincere gratitude to the organizing team and the consultants for a job well done. I also want to extend a warm word of thanks to our committed director as well as our deputy director for their strong leadership abilities. Last, but not least, thanks to everyone who attended this very important workshop. Am looking forward to see our ministry as the leading provider of health in Africa!
